Stirm, Riesling, 2020
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY | CALIFORNIA
Winemaker and proprietor Ryan Stirm takes us on a journey with a 00 (no added sulfur) Riesling that we hope to revisit as soon as the first sip is gone. Riesling is perhaps the most complex, adaptable and technically diverse white variety out there and often one of the most polarizing. It is a noble variety in both Northern France and Germany and beloved amongst us nerds in the wine community. Riesling was brought along to California with the very first grape vines in the early days of the Gold Rush - having quite a lot of popularity and success until the 1960s. Stirm is pioneering the modern resurgence of California Riesling, making wines that are both a direct reflection of the Central Coast and a testament to the range Riesling offers. Though a tinge sweet like the final licks of a Lemonhead this wine is built on layers of waxy fruit, flower petals and compelling wet stone, finishing crisp and dry.
