Presqu’ile, Syrah, 2020
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY | CALIFORNIA
Matt and Anna Murphey follow four generations of farming. Though their lineage is in Arkansas/Louisiana, their ties to the earth remain and thrive in their new home of Santa Barbara County, CA. The couple founded Presqu’ile Vineyards + Winery in an effort to produce wines that they and their families grew to deeply love. They, along with their South African transplant winemaker and friend, Dieter Cronje, make exceptional cool-climate wines. In addition to making wine under their own label, they also sell their premium fruit to some of the other, smaller winemakers we partner with. The wineries namesake is in memory of their families past gathering place on the Mississippi Gulf Coast called Presqu’ile, that was unfortunately taken by Hurricane Katrina back in 2005. The times shared there live on in the enjoyment of their wines today and so on. Presqu’ile is french/ creole for peninsula or “almost an island”
Tasting Notes: Full-bodied. Generous fruit and savory tones. An ode to Syrah's French roots with all the vibrancy of coastal California. Notes of blackberry, lavender and cured meat.
