Poe, Chardonnay, 2018
Mendocino Ridge | Mendocino & Sonoma
Winemaker and Proprietor Samantha Sheehan fell in love with Champagne at its source in Champagne, France. She fell so in love that her own brand, POE, would forever be inspired by the impact those wines and vineyards had on her heart. Poe’s namesake recalls the ravens that graced Sam’s childhood backyard, referring to Edgar Allen Poe and his ravens. She’s a woman who honors the roots that shaped her. Like the wines of Champagne, POE celebrates terroir through three grapes; Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier in the form of both sparkling and still wines. Sam seeks and sources her grapes from some of California’s most distinctive vineyards. Her quest for Chardonnay brings her to the striking Mendocino Ridge Vineyard - a vineyard that crosses over Sonoma, Mendocino and the Fog Line at 2000ft elevation. This incredibly cool climate allows for these Chardonnay grapes to hang on to their natural acidity as they evenly ripen in direct sunlight. Add a bit of new oak + Sam’s skills and we’ve got ourselves a gorgeously complex glass of wine that seems to transform with each sip. All the best things - mineral driven, ripe fruit, a little toast and just the right amount of butter.
